Competition Format

Introducing Team Role Racing or TeamRR (TRR)

Teams of 5 mixed ability (FEMALE ONLY) riders will compete for the Fearless Championship across THREE racing Divisions. Refer to the Classification section for how a team will be assigned a division.

All Teams must have a minimum of 3 riders.

Each member of the Team will be allocated a role by their Team Manager of which there are 3 role options:

  • GC Rider – 1 rider per team whose finish points are doubled for the Team score
  • Climber – 2 riders per team who can win climbing points, plus their finish points for the Team
  • Sprinter – 2 riders per team who can win sprinting points, plus their finish points for the Team

Winning
Teams will be ranked by the total combined points won by their riders given their role with the best 3 point scorers for each Team to count in each Division – this gives some leeway for virtual road issues.

In the event of a tie Teams will be ranked by the most Total Finish, Total Segment, Climb Total and finally Sprint Total points.

Team & Rider Registration
Registration is open and will remain open until the event starts.

All riders must be registered for their Club and Teams submitted for Division assessment by the closing date.

Event Passes will be made available based on the division each team has been allocated based on their team power.

Rider Classification
To grade a rider we will use a riders Zwiftracing app Max 30 day vELO value which is recognised as an accepted indicator of performance.

For this event we will use the WOMENS 30 day vELO max value.

Registered riders who show Race Needed – No history will need to enter at least 4 races where racing is tracked, this excludes TTT, Community or Group rides, ZRL non scratch events… zero scores will falsly rank riders higher… so if you want to race in the right place – Go Race and build your profile…

For reference only as it is not used in this racing format – FRR has 10 rider levels for each gender, we call this your FRHC – we assign a chilli name to each level – put simply the better the rider the hotter the chilli.

Team Division Classification
Team Division is determined by the average rider level for a Team. To calculate this we sum the rider levels and divide by the number of riders for each team, calculating to 1 decimal place. The table below shows how Teams will be grouped.

  • Team X has 5 riders with vELO Womens class (Platinum – Gold – Gold – Silver – Silver)
  • Team Strength = 36 divide by 5 riders = 7.2 which sits in the C Team strength range
    • Team Division is set at C LEVEL
    • All riders using Zwift Racing PEN C

Team Creation
Club Managers can create Teams, Clubs may have more than one manager and it is the responsibility of the manager to form Teams correctly:

  • Each Team must have an appropriate name
  • For a rider to be selected for a Team their FRR PROFILE CLUB must match the club of the Team Manager
  • Riders may only be selected for ONE Team
  • Riders may only have ONE rider role
  • All Teams and Riders will be viewable within the Registered section
  • All Teams and Riders must be registered by the closing date

To become a Club Manager and/or to have a Club created FRR account holders must contact RACE CONTROL by email.

Zwift Racing PEN
All riders of a Team must race within the same Racing PEN regardless of their level or FRHC.
Riders who fail to ride in the right racing PEN will be disqualified and will earn zero points.

Equipment

    • All riders must use a Smart Trainer as their Primary Power Source
      • Power meters may be used as a primary power source where a Smart Trainer is not available
      • Dual recording is not mandatory however experienced riders understand the benefit and equally the pitfalls
    • Riders with Trainers/bikes without power meters (ZPower) are excluded
    • SPIN bike based setups must be declared to Race Control and Team Managers – as these are less accurate and produce more watts for less effort
    • Riders are expected to use a Heart Rate Monitor (HRM), abnormal performances without HRM may result in event exclusion
    • Bike frames will be allocated for all riders (Zwift AERO), riders may choose their own wheelset

Race Respect
We all race for fun however we have all come across riders who ride on the dark side or don’t read the rules of the competition. We ask all riders to manage these situations with respect by following these simple rules when in events.

  • When in PEN you can remind riders of the rules on showing their role code or where they should be, a simple edit will fix very quickly but bear in mind some riders do not show the messages or use Companion App or perhaps understand your language
  • When in race, riders should refrain from calling out riders either openly or privately as ‘resulting’ will highlight them to race control and PEN Penalties can be applied as per the rules
  • Riders can submit rider challenges direct to RACE CONTROL via email or direct message on the FRR Discord server – Never do this openly and be assured that Race Control will review every request in the pursuit of fun, fair racing for everyone

Race Pass
Within a riders Profile is a section titled My Teams riders who have been placed in a Team for the Fearless event will have their Team displayed on a Team sheet.

At the bottom of the Team sheet will be a RacePass link to the event you and your Team riders must all use.

Riders
To compete all riders must meet the minimum requirements for accounts and equipment:

  • Riders must be OPTED IN to share their race data with ZwiftPower from their Zwift Profile Connections
  • Riders must have created and connected a ZwiftPower account – full instructions on this can be found here
  • Riders must have an FRR account to allow Team Managers to select them for a Club Team and have entered the Fearless event.
    • Simply visit the FRR Home page and complete the registration steps
    • Riders must Register for the Fearless Event in their FRR Profile by Clicking Event Registration and +Enter New Event then select the Fearless event from the list this must be completed by the closing date for the event
  • Riders are advised to have completed at least 4 Zwift race events prior to registration closing to reduce the possibility of being classified incorrectly which may affect the division assigned for your Team

Race Jersey
Clubs are requested* to wear their in-game Jersey. If there are multiple Teams from the same Club in the same Division then select different Jersey options.

Race Rider Name (In Companion app)
Riders are requested* to identify their role in their Companion App Lastname as follows:

  • GC Rider add (GC) to the name
  • Climber add (CL) to the name
  • Sprinter add (SP) to the name

ie. Jill Jones (EVO) (SP)

(*)  We ask Team Managers to promote and encourage their riders to support these requests to enhance the racing experience for everyone.

Division A and Division B
Scotland and the Little Shop of Horrors (AKA. Muckle Yin) will be the battle ground for both the Division A and Division B teams. The course will run for nearly two laps for a total of 45km offering up two sprints and two climbs to keep everyone engaged till they cross the finish line just after the Clyde Kicker on the second lap.

Climb Segments
The climbs summit SGURR both ways and given there are two laps ‘climbers’ have two opportunities to secure their best time.

  • Sgurr North (8km/31.5km) – 1500m – 3.8%
  • Sgurr South (18km/42km) – 1000m – 3.3%

Sprint Segments
Sprinters beware – these two efforts will require timing as they will both ask you a different question on speed – with two laps you may wish to consider when you sprint or when you hold!

  • Breakaway Brae Forward (14km/37.5) – 600m @ 2%
  • Clyde Kicker (21.5km/Finish) – 300m @3%

Note. Sprint Breakaway Brae Reverse is not in play and YES the Clyde Kicker is being counted as a Sprint for this event

Division C and Division D
Scotland and the Little Shop of Horrors (AKA. Muckle Yin) will be the battle ground for both the Division C and Division D teams. The course will run for nearly one and half laps for a total of 39km offering up two sprints and two climbs to keep everyone engaged till they cross the finish line just after the Breakaway Brae on the second lap.

Climb Segments
The climbs summit SGURR both ways and given there are 1.5 laps ‘climbers’ have decisions to make when to go for those points.

  • Sgurr North (8km/31.5km) – 1500m – 3.8%
  • Sgurr South (18km/42km) – 1000m – 3.3%

Sprint Segments
Sprinters beware – these two efforts will require timing as they will both ask you a different question on speed – with 1.5 laps you may wish to consider when you sprint or when you hold.

  • Breakaway Brae Forward (14km/Finish) – 600m @ 2%
  • Clyde Kicker (21.5km) – 300m @3%

Note. Sprint Breakaway Brae Reverse is not in play and YES the Clyde Kicker is being counted as a Sprint for this event.

Point Scoring
Al riders earn points from their race finish position and from their effort within segments on course as per their Team rider role.
For segments, there are no points awarded for First across the line (FAL) – ALL points are awarded by Fastest Through Segment (FTS)

GC Rider
Your mission is simple…

  • Cross the finish line as high as possible within your Division race
  • Finish points will be DOUBLED for your Team score
  • GC Riders cannot earn climb or sprinting points but you can help your Team riders achieve their roles and they can help you

Climber
Points will be awarded for KQoM segments in play, using fastest time through the segment for riders who are designated as a Team CLIMBER, no other rider roles will win points for the segment type but they can help.

  • Only ONE set of points for each segment, regardless of how many attempts the course presents
  • All CLIMBER roles will earn points

Sprinter
Points will be awarded for SPRINT segments in play, using fastest time through the segment for riders who are designated as a Team SPRINTER, no other rider roles will win points for the segment type but they can help.

  • Only ONE set of points for each segment, regardless of how many attempts the course presents
  • All SPRINTER roles will earn points

Team & Rider Registration
Registration is OEPN and will remain open up until the event starts

Team creation can begin from November 26th.

All riders must be registered for their Club and Teams submitted for Division assessment by the closing date. Event Passes will be made available 2 days before the event starts.

Rider Verification
During events riders will produce high performance, it is the responsibility of Race Control to monitor performance and look to maintain a fair racing position across all classes – as this is not just applicable to the highest most powerful riders. We do take this responsibility seriously, we get that we all do this for fun but that doesn’t mean we accept riders who choose the dark side of virtual racing.

Verification will be performed by the FRR vada (FRR Virtual anti doping agency) formed from experienced trusted riders from within the Zwift community who compete and contribute to FRR events.

FRRvada will recommend one of three options to Race Control:

  • No action required
  • Time sanction
  • Event removal/ban

All information submitted will remain confidential and Race Controls decision will be final.
Verification can take place at any point and the process is as follows:

  1. Race Control contacts riders and Team Manager via email/Discord privately
  2. Riders may be requested to provide:
    • Height and weight video to verify their BIO details
    • Zwift setup video including smart trainer, pedals etc..
    • Strava and Zwift accounts if private must be granted access to Race Control and .fit files made available for requested events
    • Rider may be asked to give their consent to Zwift via email, which Race Control has started, to allow Zwift to confirm to Race Control the Smart Trainer used for the Tour events in question
    • Rider photo ID may be requested to further assure the person in a submitted video is the rider with the request
  3. Riders will be given a suitable amount of time (normally 24 hrs) to review and provide the information requested.
  4. Riders who fail to cooperate within the time set will have time penalties applied to remove any impact on fellow riders (since we have no ability to prevent a rider from competing) and post Tour excluded from entering future events. We equally notify Zwift.
  5. FRR Jersey holders will have those Jerseys removed
