SUPER 6IX TEAM RACING

WEEKLY FRIDAY RACING
–
PILOT SERIES – SATURDAY RACING
Pilot Format

Pilot

The Pilot will test the process and gather feedback on the event formats to help inform the main Series creation, we’ll use the weekend to allow for some flexibility for riders to join an event.

There are THREE SATURDAY race times and each will have their own LEAGUE and set of FIVE DIVISIONS.

Leagues are separate and riders can choose where they want to race.

  • Race Time – 0700 UTC
    • League – ORION
  • Race Time – 1300 UTC
    • League – NEBULA
  • Race Time – 1600 UTC
    • League – SIRIUS

League Divisions are shown below and the maximum allowable rider class for each:

  • ALPHA – PEN A
    • All classes allowed
  • BETA – PEN B
    • Max CLASS CRP
  • GAMMA – PEN C
    • Max CLASS HAB
  • DELTA  – PEN D
    • Max CLASS CAY
  • EPSILON  – PEN E
    • Max CLASS PEP

Rider Classification
ZRapp Max 30day Open rating will be used to classify all riders as this is MIXED racing so Women riders will be placed more competitively by their vELO rating.

For the Pilot riders need to have completed THREE vELO ranked races where racing has been tracked by ZRapp, this excludes TTT, Community or Group rides, ZRL non scratch events… so if you want to race in the right place – Go Race and build your profile…

Wrong classification? Riders have the ability in their Profile to ‘change their classification‘ – refer to the Classification Rider section of the rules.

Rider Class Change
If you move class, change your race time or move Division your points stay where you earned them – so choose a time and class you expect to stay within.

Race Pass
Within a riders Profile is a section titled EVENT RACE PASS all passes for the PILOT Series will appear here only.

Riders can choose which DIVISION to race in depending on their CLASS, there is no maximum Division but the process will exclude Divisions that a rider is too powerful to race in.

WARNING – Each PEN has the maximum rider class shown however when the race pass opens all Divisions will be available so….

  • PLEASE READ the PEN DIVISION titles to ensure  YOU  are in a PEN that your CLASS permits
  • It is the riders responsibility to ensure they are in the right race pen, failure to do so will result in race disqualification and we really don’t want that!

Scoring
Simple points based system to determine each race leaderboard, with the best SIX race results to count towards the League – this allows for all sorts of reasons why people cannot make an event as we all have things to do.

Riders earn points as per their Profile Role or the Role set within Team creation which will override the riders Profile where a Team Manager has designed a Team.

Each Race riders can earn the same amount of points.

Prize
Finish in the TOP 5 of any League to enter the draw for an FRR indoor Jersey – we have  FIVE   on offer to say thank you for joining and helping us try things out.

Team & Rider Registration
Registration is open and will remain open throughout the pilot.League

Super 6IX Team Racing

Teams consist of FIVE riders, each having a specific role to play each race with one rider nominated as the wildcard rider to make the 6th element of the racing format.

Series racing is organised across TWO Conferences NS and EW covering FOUR geographic regions. Each region there can be up to FIVE Leagues and each League can have a number of Divisions – all depending on sign up.

Races times will be 1830 local time, aligned as follows:

  • EUROPE  – NS Conference – Aligns to London
  • APAC – NS Conference – Aligns to Sydney
  • US EAST – EW Conference – Aligns to New York
  • US WEST – EW Conference – Aligns to Calgary

The Series will run THREE rounds of FIVE races with promotion and relegation in operation at the end of each round, the series will build towards the playoffs and then the World Final.

What is the Series aim? To be crowned the Ultimate Racing Team in your League – but to have a chance your Team must be in the top division for that League by round 3 and then finish in the top 5 teams to enter the Play Off Stage of the Series.

How do the Play Offs work? At the end of round 3 the top 5 teams of Division 1 for each League and region enter the Conference playoff race, where the top 5 Teams progress to the World Final race to determine the best racing Team of the Series.

How will the races work? Each race all rider scores will count, but refer to the racing formats and races for specific rules that may apply. Teams that score the most points each race in each division get the most Team points which are used to rank the Divisions.

How do riders score points? Each member of the Team will be allocated a role by their Team Manager of which there are FOUR role options, each race will offer each role opportunities to score points:

  • GC Rider – 1 rider per team whose finish points are doubled for the Team score
  • Climber – 2 riders per team who can win climbing points, plus their finish points for the Team
  • Sprinter – 2 riders per team who can win sprinting points, plus their finish points for the Team
  • Wildcard – 1 rider per team will be given more to do for their Team and have a greater reward

What happens at the end of each Round? The top 3 teams of each division will be promoted and the bottom 3 relegated. Leagues will persist so where you finish at the end of round three is where you start in the next Series.

In the event of a tie on Team points rank will be determined by:

  • Total Finish
    • Total Segment
    • Climb Total
    • Sprint Total

Team & Rider Registration
Registration is open and will remain open throughout the Series. New Teams can join the racing at the end of each round in the lowest division of the class selected.

Rider Classification
To grade a rider we will use a riders Zwiftracing app Max 30 day vELO rating value which is recognised as an accepted indicator of performance.

Women only Racing If there are sufficient Teams and riders we will use the WOMENS 30 day vELO max value to grade riders.

Registered riders who show Race Needed – No history will need to have completed FIVE races where racing has been tracked by ZRapp, this excludes TTT, Community or Group rides, ZRL non scratch events… zero scores will falsely rank riders higher… so if you want to race in the right place – Go Race and build your profile…

There will be no exceptions to not having sufficient history.

FRHC Class – Self Change
For the vast majority, a riders vELO class will be representative of their ability and there will be no valid reason to change it.

For a minority of riders their vELO may not be reflective of their abilities, for this reason riders now have the ability within their Profile to change/manage their FRHC UP or DOWN rather than appeal to Race Control directly.

Riders will need to select a reason from the list provided to justify the change. The process worked well in the World Trophy event so we have great hopes that the process will again be used as intended – in October many riders will still be getting their indoor ranking back to where it should be however they will know their inner strengths as such grade yourselves accordingly, don’t look to game the process as it will be your Team and Team mates that will suffer from your upgrade. Just ride where you have competition.

All rider classification changes are made PUBLIC

Warning as you would expect riders who ‘downgrade’ their class will get more attention pre and post race. Race Control will ensure than the ability is not abused and that riders who race unfairly are DQ’d – the ‘effort level’ which is clearly marked in events will be a key indicator.

The ‘pilot’ event will trial the option which if used correctly will help riders simply compete in the right place.

FRHC Class – ELITE
Riders with a ZRapp classification of Diamond/Ruby can upgrade their Class to ELITE level by doing so they are declaring the following:

  • Strava accounts are public
    • Verified former or current Elite athletes may require profiles to be private this can be reviewed as when required by Race Control
  • Biometrics are regularly updated
  • Dual recording is always performed and uploaded
  • IRL performances support indoor classification

At this stage an ELITE classified rider is simply declaring their position, there are no extra points to be won BUT at some point we do want to recognise riders for their expertise.

Why is your Class relevant?

Leagues are restricted by the class of rider they can select, as shown by the table below. Riders are free to ride for any Team at any level their class allows them to ride for –  CAVEAT – to ride in the playoff phase a rider must have ridden FIVE times for that Team in the Season and still be within the classification group for that Team.

Team REGION – LEAGUE – DIVISION
Club Managers determine where they want their Teams to race by selecting their REGION and at what level by selecting their LEAGUE as dictated by the riders they have available.

Team DIVISION is determined by the CLASSIFICATION event, a single scratch race to rank teams.

ie. the top 10 form division 1 etc.. (tbc)

Depending on Club and Team signup there may be only ONE division, this will be determined when we look to form the Leagues.

Team Management
Club Managers can create Teams, Clubs may have more than one manager and it is the responsibility of the manager to form Teams correctly:

  • Each Team must have an appropriate name
  • For a rider to be selected for a Team their FRR PROFILE CLUB must match the CLUB of the Team Manager
  • Riders may only be selected for ONE Team for each race, but can race for other Teams during the Series
  • Riders may only have ONE rider role
  • All Teams and Riders will be viewable within the Registered section

To become a Club Manager members can indicate this upon registration for the event, for all new club creation FRR account holders must contact RACE CONTROL by email so initial setup can be done.

Zwift Racing PEN
All riders of a Team must race within the same Racing PEN regardless of their level or FRHC.
Riders who fail to ride in the right racing PEN will be disqualified and will earn zero points.

Equipment

    • All riders must use a Smart Trainer as their Primary Power Source
      • Power meters may be used as a primary power source where a Smart Trainer is not available
    • Riders with Trainers/bikes without power meters (ZPower) are excluded
    • SPIN bike based setups must be declared to Race Control and Team Managers – as these are less accurate and produce more watts for less effort
    • Riders are expected to use a Heart Rate Monitor (HRM), abnormal performances without HRM may result in event exclusion
    • Bike frames will be allocated for all riders (Zwift AERO/TT) – upgrades will be neutralised (sorry), riders may choose their own wheelset
    • Dual recording is not mandatory however experienced riders understand the benefit and equally the pitfalls
    • Riders who upgrade to ‘ELITE’ level must
      • Dual record
      • Have Open Strava accounts with IRL performances to support their indoor classification

Race Respect
We all race for fun however we have all come across riders who ride on the dark side or don’t read the rules of the competition. We ask all riders to manage these situations with respect by following these simple rules when in events.

  • When in PEN you can remind riders of the rules on showing their role code or where they should be, a simple edit will fix very quickly but bear in mind some riders do not show the messages or use Companion App or perhaps understand your language
  • When in race, riders should refrain from calling out riders either openly or privately as ‘resulting’ will highlight them to race control and PEN Penalties can be applied as per the rules
  • Riders can submit rider challenges direct to RACE CONTROL via email or direct message on the FRR Discord server – Never do this openly and be assured that Race Control will review every request in the pursuit of fun, fair racing for everyone

Race Pass
Within a riders Profile is a section titled EVENT RACE PASS all passes for the PILOT Series will appear here only

Riders
To compete all riders must meet the minimum requirements for accounts and equipment:

  • Riders must be OPTED IN to share their race data with ZwiftPower from their Zwift Profile Connections
  • Riders must have created and connected a ZwiftPower account – full instructions on this can be found here
  • Riders must have an FRR account to allow Team Managers to select them for a Club Team
  • Riders must registered for the Series
    • Create your FRR Account if you do not have one
    • Register for the Series by Clicking Event Registration in your Profile then click +Enter New Event and select the Series event from the list shown
  • Riders must complete at least 5 Zwift race events prior to racing in the pilot or main series this is to set a baseline position for all riders.

Race Rider Name (In Companion app)
Riders are requested* to identify their role in their Companion App Lastname as follows, for the PILOT Series Wildcard scoring will not be in play as the pilot is on an individual basis

  • GC Rider add (GC) to the name
  • Climber add (CL) to the name
  • Sprinter add (SP) to the name
  • Wildcard add (WC) to the name

ie. Jill Jones (EVO) (SP)

(*)  We ask Team Managers to promote and encourage their riders to support these requests to enhance the racing experience for everyone.

Point Scoring
All riders earn points from their race finish position and from their effort within segments on course as per their Team rider role.
For segments, there are no points awarded for First across the line (FAL) – ALL points are awarded by Fastest Through Segment (FTS)
For the PILOT Series Wildcard scoring will not be in play as the pilot is on an individual basis

GC Rider
Your mission is simple…

  • Cross the finish line as high as possible within your Division race
  • Finish points will be DOUBLED for your Team score
  • GC Riders cannot earn climb or sprinting points but you can help your Team riders achieve their roles and they can help you

Climber
Points will be awarded for KQoM segments in play, using fastest time through the segment for riders who are designated as a Team CLIMBER, no other rider roles will win points for the segment type but they can help.

  • Only ONE set of points for each segment, regardless of how many attempts the course presents
  • All CLIMBER roles will earn points

Sprinter
Points will be awarded for SPRINT segments in play, using fastest time through the segment for riders who are designated as a Team SPRINTER, no other rider roles will win points for the segment type but they can help.

  • Only ONE set of points for each segment, regardless of how many attempts the course presents
  • All SPRINTER roles will earn points

Wildcard
Each Team must have a rider noted as their Wildcard rider. Each Race will set a different challenge for those riders to earn more points for their Team.

Team Promotion – Relegation – Late Join – Resignation
The Series consists of 3 rounds of 5 races. At the end of each round the top 3 Teams will be promoted and the bottom 3 Teams will be relegated, all on the assumption there is more than one Division in the League. Relegation may be adjusted if Teams resign their League place.

Late Join New Teams can join the Series at the end of each round, and will be placed in the lowest Division within the Region and League selected by the Team Manager.

Resignation Teams can resign from the Series at any point, Team Managers are requested to inform Race Control so appropriate adjustments can be made

Rider Verification
During events riders will produce high performance, it is the responsibility of Race Control to monitor performance and look to maintain a fair racing position across all classes – as this is not just applicable to the highest most powerful riders. We do take this responsibility seriously, we get that we all do this for fun but that doesn’t mean we accept riders who choose the dark side of virtual racing.

Verification will be performed by the FRR vada (FRR Virtual anti doping agency) formed from experienced trusted riders from within the Zwift community who compete and contribute to FRR events.

FRR vada will recommend one of three options to Race Control:

  • No action required
  • Time sanction
  • Event removal/ban

All information submitted will remain confidential and Race Controls decision will be final.
Verification can take place at any point and the process is as follows:

  1. Race Control contacts riders and Team Manager via email/Discord privately
  2. Riders may be requested to provide:
    • Height and weight video to verify their BIO details
    • Zwift setup video including smart trainer, pedals etc..
    • Strava and Zwift accounts if private must be granted access to Race Control and .fit files made available for requested events
    • Rider may be asked to give their consent to Zwift via email, which Race Control has started, to allow Zwift to confirm to Race Control the Smart Trainer used for the Tour events in question
    • Rider photo ID may be requested to further assure the person in a submitted video is the rider with the request
  3. Riders will be given a suitable amount of time (normally 24 hrs) to review and provide the information requested.
  4. Riders who fail to cooperate within the time set will have time penalties applied to remove any impact on fellow riders (since we have no ability to prevent a rider from competing) and post Tour excluded from entering future events. We equally notify Zwift.
  5. FRR Jersey holders will have those Jerseys removed
